MOOYI Joins Hands with Uruguayan Consul General and Meat Association to Forge a New Blueprint for Hong Kong’s Beef Market

On September 29, 2025, Ouyang, Executive Director of MOOYI INTERNATIONAL HOLDING LIMITED (hereinafter referred to as “MOOYI”), along with Lareina Lin from the International Business Department and Catherine Zhang from the Finance Department of MOOYI, was invited by Federico Rah, Uruguayan Consul General in Hong Kong, to hold a highly significant one-on-one discussion with Victoria Cai, representative of the Uruguayan National Meat Association. The three parties focused on the development of Uruguayan beef in the Hong Kong market and conducted in-depth exploration of cooperation pathways and potential opportunities.

During the meeting, the promotion of direct export of Uruguayan beef to Hong Kong emerged as the core discussion topic. The three parties reached a consensus that Hong Kong importers play a pivotal role in exploring the local market. Leveraging their well-established channels and extensive resource networks, these importers can facilitate the more efficient entry of Uruguayan beef into the Hong Kong market. Meanwhile, Uruguayan local exporters also need to attach greater importance to the Hong Kong market. MOOYI, relying on its own channel advantages and industry experience in the Hong Kong market, can collaborate with the Uruguayan government and relevant institutions to provide support to exporters in areas such as market research and trade matchmaking, helping them better adapt to the rules and demands of the Hong Kong market. Additionally, the establishment of a scientific and rational grading system for Uruguayan beef was also put on the agenda, which will help enhance the standardization level and added value of the products, thereby meeting the needs of different consumer groups in the Hong Kong market.

Currently, Hong Kong’s beef market is undergoing remarkable changes. After the pandemic, the market structure has undergone in-depth adjustments. Coupled with the entry of some leading catering enterprises from the Chinese mainland into Hong Kong, the market, which was originally dominated by Japanese Wagyu beef, has witnessed new room for market share. Uruguayan beef, with its outstanding cost-effectiveness, has demonstrated strong competitiveness amid these market changes. Furthermore, Hong Kong’s unique market culture leads downstream enterprises to tend towards long-term cooperation once they establish reliable trade relationships with suppliers. This implies that once Uruguayan beef successfully gains access to the Hong Kong market, it will be able to build relatively stable sales channels, laying a solid foundation for long-term market development.

For MOOYI, this discussion holds great significance. Ouyang stated that MOOYI will give full play to its strengths in international market operation and resource integration, and actively assume the role of a bridge for the promotion and sales of Uruguayan beef in the Hong Kong market. The company plans to closely cooperate with the Uruguayan National Meat Association to jointly formulate targeted market promotion strategies. Through organizing relevant events, participating in industry exchanges and other means, it will enhance the popularity and reputation of Uruguayan beef among Hong Kong consumers. At the same time, MOOYI will utilize its own sales network to accurately distribute Uruguayan beef to various channels in Hong Kong, including catering and retail sectors.

This one-on-one discussion has injected new vitality into the cooperation between MOOYI, the Uruguayan Consulate General in Hong Kong, and the Uruguayan National Meat Association. It is believed that with the joint efforts of the three parties, Uruguayan beef will surely open up a new horizon in the Hong Kong market, achieve a mutually beneficial and win-win situation, and also add new impetus to the economic and trade exchanges as well as cultural interactions between China and Uruguay.
